Research and Innovation Laboratories

Fostering innovation and strengthening Virginia’s economic future by providing industry and government partners the opportunity to co-locate on collaborative research and development projects.

Team works on programming drone technology in NIA lab

The Research and Innovation Laboratories opened on April 12, 2012 as the National Institute of Aerospace’s first dedicated laboratory facility for faculty, student and staff research.

It serves as a shared space for NIA-led research endeavors in partnership with aerospace staff and industry. These facilities are complimentary to NASA’s Langley Research Center.

In addition to NIA and private industry laboratories, REaKTOR Accelerator (PTI) and other offices are located in the building. These offices include our educational outreach programs, Virginia Tech Department of Engineering and more.

If you are an organization interested in using our facilities, contact our Vice President of Operations, Karl Drews.
